How to Repair the Power Button on Androids

It seems like touch screens on smartphones have been the status quo for ages. Nowadays, you barely find any buttons on a smartphone, except for the volume and the power buttons.

This makes it troublesome when your phone’s power button stops working.

How to Repair the Power Button on Androids

If this is the case, do not panic. There are simple ways to fix your phone’s power button, and plenty of alternatives to try.

In this article, we will share tips on how to repair the power button of your Android device.

Turn on USB debugging

First we recommend USB debugging.

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Find the “Developer Options,” or you can turn on USB debugging on the “About” section of your phone.
  3. Once you’re in there, you need to tap on the “Build number” a few times.

It should prompt a message that reads “You are now a developer.” Click on the Developer options and turn it on.

  1. Next, find the USB debugging and toggle it ON.
  2. Here, you’ll want to turn ON the scheduled power ON. To do this, you can go to Settings again, and find the “Scheduled power ON/OFF” through the search field. Then turn on the Power ON and set the time you want your phone to power ON everyday.

What if my Android’s power button doesn’t work?

If your Android phone’s power button doesn’t work, avoid shutting down your phone or letting the battery drain.

Restart your phone without the power button by connecting it to a PC or a laptop using the USB cable. This may prompt you to reboot your device.

I have USB debugging enabled, now what?

If you already have the USB debugging enabled, you can try to restart your device using the ADB commands. Each phone model has their own device drivers, so search online for each specific tool.

How to unlock my Android without a power button

When unlocking your phone with a broken power button, you can simply use the fingerprint scanner, or the face recognition option.

If your phone doesn’t have those biometric options, you may plug in your charger, and it will prompt you to enter your phone lock combination to unlock.

You may also double tap the phone screen, or the volume button to wake your phone up when locked.

Apps to Replace the Power Button

There are also apps you can use to replace the power button on your phone. Examples of these  include Shake to Lock/Unlock. With this, you gently shake your phone to prompt the display.

Another cool app is Gravity Screen. This automatically turns your phone screen off when it’s in your pocket, or when placed on a flat surface.

This app also allows you to keep the screen on while your device is in motion.

You may also try the Power Button to Volume Button app. With this app, you can use your volume button to act as a power button.

However, you can only use it to wake your screen up from sleep. It doesn’t allow you to restart your device using the volume button.

So there you have it! The tips above show you how to repair the power button on Androids. If none of these work for you, you can try taking your phone to a phone repair shop.
